Shaving Cream Polar Bears
The kids had so much fun with this project! I got the inspiration from a polar bear sweater I have. Here is what we did:
1) I mixed up a dish of shaving cream a little glue and glitter ( found that the glue helps the shaving cream from flaking off when it dries)
2)I gave each child a large sheet of black poster board (construction paper would work fine too). And a white oil pastel. Some of the kids were perfectly capable of drawing their bear themselves but the little ones needed a bit more help. So we drew a simple large circle for the head and added some small ears at the top and some of the children decided to give their bear a body too.
3)When they were satisfied with their bear they used their hands to fill in the whole thing with the shaving cream mixture.
This was so squishy, gooey, and probably the best part!!
4) Next each child was given a purple triangle for a hat, two purple rectangles to make a scarf, yarn for a mouth, a small black triangle for a nose, fuzzy purple yarn to add to the scarf, a cotton ball to put on the end of the hat and two googly eyes. They used some glue to make sure everything stuck. The kids had fun arranging the items on their bears! They also used the pastels to decorate the background adding snow and other things, and they also discovered that you could draw over the shaving cream with pastel too-- some of them added decoration right on the bear!
