More Summer Camp Projects
Matisse Organic Shape Warm/Cool Cut-Outs: We studied Henri Matisse and his "Cut-Out" artwork then made some of our own. We used a warm color for the first shape and a cool color for the second.
Second Matisse Project: We studied The Goldfish Bowl By Henri Matisse
To do this project I drew the picture with a black marker and they followed along to create their own by watching me and looking at the reference.
Then they used patterns to fill the background. And then painted with watercolors. These pictures are not great but they turned out beautifully!

Exploration Camp
Overview
of the artists we learned about!
Day
1: Artist: KEITH HARING
Keith
Haring was born on May 4, 1958 in Reading, Pennsylvania. Created
figures with simple shapes that usually looked like animals with
human bodies. Much of his work was influences by music and held a
spirit of movement and liveliness. His style contained flat simple
shapes and bright colors.
Day
2: Artist: HENRI MATISSE
Created
paintings in a style that emphasized flat simple shapes, lots of
patterns and bold colors. He wanted to make people feel relaxed and
comfortable when they looked at his paintings.
Later
in life he was bound to a wheelchair and could not stand at his
canvas, so he started “drawing” with scissors and created
beautiful abstract“cut-out” art.
Day
3: ROY LICHTENSTEIN & WAYNE TIEABAUD
These
artists worked during the Pop Art movement when artists were inspired
by popular culture- so the subjects in their work focused on turning
thing from ordinary life- food, music, TV into bold artistic
statements.
Day
4: ALEXANDER CALDER
Among
the most innovative modern sculptors. Created the first moveable art
known today as mobiles. Calder loved to create circus figures. He
intricately assembled performance pieces played out by handmade
characters. All his work held a sense of humor and play. He did
many wire sculptures and mobiles.
Day
5: CLAUDE MONET
One
of the most popular Impressionist artists. Monet depicted scenes of
flowers in gardens, waterlilies in ponds and scenic landscapes. His
style was to create a soft impression of what he saw to evoke feeling
and emotion.
Thank
you for joining me to explore some fascinating artists this week! I
hope you had as much fun as I did!
